A Young Boy’s Hand

Our Story

Helping hands

We saw this young boy at a rural Kenyan clinic MEDS for Africa held in a church in Kapsokwana on Mt. Elgon. His sister brought him in because the parents could not be found. He had been refused treatment at the district hospital in Kapsokwana because his sister did not have the 1,300 Ksh (Kenya schillings) required. We knew that if his hand was not drained surgically he would lose it. He need to be in that hospital.
“How much is the cost?” we asked.

“1,300 Ksh.”

That is THIRTEEN DOLLARS American. He was sent back to the hospital with 2,000 Ksh! A young boy's hand was saved for thirteen dollars!
